Sitting around a roaring camp fire is very much part of many a visit to Great Wood Camp. Marshmallows can be toasted, stories shared and memories made.
There are two places in Great Wood Camp where fires are allowed:
Fire pit
There is an outside fire-pit in which to have a camp fire, in an open square area surrounded by logs. You are welcome to light a fire here as long as you use only fallen wood collected by hand from a designated area around the site.
It’s also a great place to host a BBQ, and we have a wheeled one available (locked away) on request. You will need to provide your own charcoal and tools.
Mess Hut fireplace
In the Mess Hut itself, the wood burner can give a great atmosphere of an evening, particularly if the weather is not so good outside. There are logs in the store (for use in this burner only).
Please do contact us if you have any concerns or questions about lighting fires at Great Wood Camp.
